After reading this article by Thirteen Thoughts it struck me that … thou and behold I already have a morning routine that’s dramatically changed my life and resulted in career success. In today’s post, I wanted to share with you 5 life changing morning habits that helped me create a life and career I love to wake up for on Monday morning.

1 | RISE AND SHINE EARLY IN THE MORNING

Being up early at 5- 6am is a magical time of the day, it is so peaceful and I love the quiet solitude.  It’s the time where I feel empowered and alive.

I learnt this powerful tip from Karena and Katrina over at toneitup.com when completing one of their fitness challenges and the habit has stuck like glue.

By setting aside time first thing in the morning, nothing can get in the way of what’s important to progress your career. This time can bring peace and tranquillity to your life, especially if you have a day jam-packed with meetings which are an essential morning habit for career success.

2 | JOURNAL, A SHORTCUT TO CAREER SUCCESS

Oh, this little powerful little trick has transformed my life in so many positive ways.

I use to be a constant complainer and was never happy with what I had in life, especially in my career. I was stressed out, unappreciated at work and feeling like a total failure. I was jealous of those around me for their success and not realising what I had in my own life that was amazing.

This all stopped the moment I focused on being grateful for the ‘haves’ not the ‘have not’s’.

A close friend of mine said to me one day how she longed to be able to travel as much as Mr V and I did but wasn’t able to. It was a real wake-up call to be grateful for what I had.

I started to journal what I was grateful for in my life and BAM! Instant happiness; which resulted in career success.

There are plenty of things to be grateful for when we stop to think about it.

Spend 5 mins each morning, writing out what you have to be grateful for. Do it for a minimum of 90 days and watch as your life transforms before your very eyes.

3 | GIVE YOURSELF THE GIFT OF EXERCISE AND FEEL EMPOWERED

You have often heard me bang on about the benefits of working out in these fitness posts and getting in that workout in the morning creates lasting energy for the whole day. You will have the momentum and motivation to do the best job possible each day in your job and the energy to create a life you love. It’s why this morning habit will help gain you career success.

When you get in the sweat session first thing in the morning nothing can get in your way, like a conference call that runs late, a delayed train or last minute drinks at the pub.

Add 30mins of exercise to your morning routine like toning (I’ve got a set of weights in my living room), go for a run, swim, bike or taking the dog for a walk.

4 | FUEL YOUR BODY WITH A HEALTHY BREAKFAST

After exercising, the only thing I can think about is food and like starting your day right, start your meals right with a healthy breakfast.

By having the correct fuel in your body from the start of the day, you will have the energy to get thru those long strategy sessions. Granola with almond milk and strawberries or blueberry pecan overnights oats are delicious options.

5 | DO SOMETHING THAT NOURISHES YOUR SOUL

When I am running around during a busy day of meetings, conference calls, presentations … I just want to cry.

I don’t like feeling as if I don’t have any ‘me’ time. I hate it when my workload feels too jam-packed. That’s why I try to build a feel good activity into my day that nourishes my soul.

A special something just for me.

For example, I really love listening to podcasts (here are my 5 favourites) on the way to work. It’s the time where I learn something new, have a good laugh and disappear into another world for 30 minutes. A great podcast to include as morning habits for career success is by Jess Lively.
